I understand that a lot of people just think the cardinals have been bad to mid since Murray has been there, ergo Murray is bad to mid, but he is clearly the best option to me at that minimum salary for one year. He’s still young and has way more upside than the other guys who won’t cost you $30m and require a long term commitment, and the Call of Duty stuff is probably overblown. He’s clearly not a Johnny Manziel level knucklehead or anything, and he’ll be extremely motivated to have a good year so he can secure another big contract. If we were talking about trading picks, spending cap, and committing long term to Murray, then I would be completely out on this idea. But a one year, minimum contract that would let you bring in some decent free agents and re-roll the dice on a QB in next year’s draft? Absolutely makes sense to me. Plus, it will be fun! Last year was such a downer I’m ready to actually enjoy my Sundays again.
It is impossible to have a bad contract for the minimum, especially for a QB. So, if that's on the table, it's an easy choice.
That said, QBs don't become available unless there are legitimate concerns about them. In the history of the league, there's never been a whisper of any other QB having a "must study film for X hours/week" provision in his contract. It's a red flag. That aside, Murray's been wildly inconsistent, and he's missed material games in 3 of his 7 seasons. One should be concerned about a running/off-script QB having decreasing athleticism and durability as he turns 29.
I'm not at all optimistic it will work out, but the risk is non-existent and there are no better options. This is not the year to spend on UFAs though, it's the year to (#$%*! finally) get the cap in good shape.
I think getting Kyler doesn't have to mean that JJMC is gone. Kyler has had his fair share of injuries so that could give JJMC a chance to jump in. JJMC needs a few years to develop and there is no guarantee that Kyler will do well with the team. If JJMC develops but Kyler is good he can still be moved or will need a comp pick if thats not possible. Now if you can get a 2nd for JJMC maybe you do take that but otherwise he is worth keeping.
Trading JJMC now would be selling as low as possible. He's cheap for the rest of his rookie deal. It's not impossible that he manages to stay healthy, grow the eff up and play reasonably well in games. If he pulls a Willis this year (looks good in a couple of spot starts), the return trading him next year would be considerably higher.
The most likely thing is that he's a bust and remains so, probably getting hurt again if he plays a material number of live snaps. But, the team would be no worse off by dumping him in 2027.
I agree, I just don't see the point in moving on from him unless its a great deal trade wise. There is no point in moving on from him for a stinking day 3 pick or anything less than a second.
So what if his sit and develop season is year 3 instead of year 1? He got out there and saw how hard it is, and now knows he needs to work on a lot of things. Let him work on them with less pressure. If he develops and next season Kyler wants 50 million because he got the Vikings to the playoffs, well then at least you have an option with JJMC if you are reluctant to pay Kyler that much. Though that scenario sounds just like what we went through Darnold lol.
Yeah. If Murray happens, it would be nice to have multiple years of control. But, since he's presumably signing for the minimum and there may be other suitors, I expect he'll be able to get a pure 1 year deal and possibly include that the team can't tag him.
Hmmmm... I can see KOC on the telephone with EA Sports requesting they quickly design a football game using the Viking offensive scheme. Might be the only way to get through to this young lad! I also noted no mention of Carr...
Being a Vikings fan living in AZ and having watched a lot of Cardinals games, Murray is incredibly frustrating. All I can say is get ready for never knowing what you’ll get week to week.

pass... figure out the headache you produced instead of seeking a new one...

Take a chance, better than Geno. Darnold was no all-star when we got him.
I would much rather have him than Geno. You could talk me into Carr over Geno pretty easily as well.
You sold me. Now how do we get a good RB.
