To quote Squints from “The Sandlot,” as he reaches his breaking point while watching Wendy Peffercorn oiling and lotioning at the pool:

I CAN’T TAKE IT NO MORE!

This roster, as currently constructed for 2024, is nowhere near a Super Bowl contender. And bringing Kirk back, even on a “discount” contract would continue to hinder KAM’s ability to build. Not taking a chance with this unusually high pick on an unusually rich QB draft class would be a terrible mistake. If they re-sign Kirk, he’s gonna keep winning 8 games, and they’ll keep landing just outside the striking distance of top QB prospects.

Just jump in the deep end, dammit. Let’s take our shot at Wendy Peffercorn.

Squints was a hero.

I want to believe they take an objective view of their roster, but these comments don't reassure me. Sounds like more of the same to me. I hope I'm wrong.

I would think he is discussing these issues with the Wilfs and they might want to see Kirk more than Kwesi wants to see Kirk. So he has to show interest yes, but at what price point......

I think that's exactly what's happening, yes.

Rumour has it when Artie Smith's dad was starting FedEx, he needed a hot weekend at the blackjack tables to stay afloat. It worked, but that doesn't mean it's a sound approach. The Rams got their Lombardi and flags fly forever, but they won the division by a game, and then beat the Bucs, 9ers and Bengals by 3 points each time. It's hard to look at that strategy and think it's a model to follow or something that could be repeated.

We're a long way from the final 53, and while one hopes TJ Hocks comes back healthy, the only minor surgeries as those someone else has. Still, if next year's team gets good QB play it should be in the playoffs. That's really the ideal: be in the mix each year and hope one (or more) year(s) the team makes the plays/gets the bounces to win its last game.
