This win was predictable if you know anything about Vikings history. Here comes the hope and we all know what happens after that.
That being said I'm hyped about the win and very excited about how the team played! It was a pretty great game by the offense until they got to the red zone. The defense played pretty well overall especially against an offensive genius like Shanahan.
Great 8 and 8 until I die, I should just get the t-shirts made. Never been so disappointed in a win. Be great watching all these other teams take good QB's, now they won't trade players at deadline and have ammo to move up.
Vikings fans shouldn’t be predisposed to optimism. I appreciate the mental approach.
But, my dear sir, have you seen the plethora of top 5 QBs who suck? This isn’t the NBA. I have a friend who is an enthusiastic Bears fan. I don’t aspire to Trubisky or Fields.
The Kirk experience has had 6yrs, with zero SB, how is that worse?? The Bears are/were bad a drafting QBs. No one but Bears had Trubisky going at that pick. Most teams passed on Fields. Gotta believe O'CONNELL can pick a QB. Can't be scared to try or 8 and 8 until we die.. like I said
Let's looked at just making a Super Bowl. That's still a damned high bar.
The Bills are a common example here: they moved on from Taylor, drafted Allen, and he eventually played well enough to sign a second, massive contract. Last year they were lucky to get by a Fish team playing its 3rd string QB, and then got curb-stomped by the Tigers the following week. They have zero SBs, and may miss the playoffs this year.
Let's forget the busts--of whom there are plenty--and just think of the teams that drafted a guy who was good enough to be offered an extension. That's the typical line of demarcation for a successful pick. Besides Allen, we have the Bolts and Herbert. The Cowboys and Dak. The Lions and Stafford. The Cardinals and Murray. The Sexual Predator now in Cleveland. And, of course, the Jints and Danny Dimes. They've all played in as many Super Bowls as we have.
No one likes being stuck in traffic, but getting out and running down I-35W doesn't improve things. It's not an issue of being scared, it's a risk assessment and realism. It's far more likely that the next qb will be worse than Cousins than that he'll be as good as Cousins is or better.
I get your argument, but ready for anything different, better or worse at this point. 6 years of Kirk with 2 coaching staffs = 1 playoff win.
You know, definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and expecting different results! He's been given enough time.
Those other guys haven't won because Brady or Mahomes have won them all pretty much, they likely have a chance now with 1 out of picture. Although that said, I'd take Kirk at the price of the 10th-15th best QB like he is, and the you could build around him, but he won't do that. Kirk has won the "salary" superbowl, just not real one. So let's try something new, which I think Vikes are going to do, but the more we win the less chance of getting 1 of the "concensus" top QB'S, lowering your odds of hitting. Finish middle of pack you may have zero chance to even trade up for one. Also, with this much improved Oline and skilled offensive players a rookie could thrive and develop increasing your odds.
Agreed that Brady skews the data so much it’s hard to draw anything. The insanity point turns on what’s expected to happen. Has the team had the success that was hoped for? No, but 30 teams miss the SB each year. The question becomes is replacing Cousins likely to improve the team or make things worse? That point also applies to trading Hunter for say a second or third round pick.
Hunter is no brainer if you're not resigning him to a new deal, you gotta get something while you can, otherwise he just walks and you get nothing! I wouldn't hate a resign, but gotta pay JJ and Darrisaw too. I'd still move forward with trading him, and anybody else that might not fit there timeline or expiring contract..maybe Hicks, Osborne, Cleveland, Hitman ( although he might just retire a Viking). We've kept so many people to long and got nothing!!
I would prefer they have their pick of the litter but you’re right. With these receiving corps, two of the best tackles in football and an offensive head coach, they could put the fourth QB drafted into a winning situation.
Before the season I predicted the Vikings to finish with 9 wins and I continue to feel this is possible. Maybe 10 wins if they find their golden horseshoe from last year.
Regardless of what the rest of the season brings, man was that FUN!
Bosa won 1/40 reps against Darrisaw 😲😲😲
@Ms. Churchill: touché.

Mr. Stead, your analysis is brilliant.
