It sounds like the Wilfs motto in a nutshell to me. We never want to be bad, and we want to figure out how to get better without losing. Which has always meant, and will continue to mean, we stay in the that mediocre middle. We'll win the division a fair bit, we'll make the playoffs now and then, but we'll not really go farther. It sounded that way to me last year a bit, but it feels like all the pieces are proving this to be the case more and more. Doesn't mean the team won't be fun to watch, but if you're looking for a Super Bowl, meh. Kinda the same old, same old in terms of the future, methinks.

It’s fair to see the Wilfs as a major reason for this approach.

However, a GM could have come into this year to clean up the cap and stop burning space in future years. The offence would be identical, and is anyone going to look back at say thank goodness Davenport and Lowry were here in 2023? Combined they had one more sack last year than you or I did.

KAM kept Cook and Smith on the roster into the summer for no benefit, which required borrowing future cap space to start the league year. I would have strongly preferred resetting while cleaning up the books, having a fun year trying to outscore everyone while seeing which young guys can play, and being ready to rock with a rookie qb in 24. Now, the key benefit of a rookie qb (abundant surplus cap room) is wasted. I don’t think that’s only on the Wilfs.
