Football is a small sample size game. Mahomes is 28 and has played 18 playoff games. The 1992 Bulls played 22 of them. The point is to win; Mahomes makes key plays when he has the opportunity. Good for him, but there is a limit to what can or should be drawn from scant evidence.
The 9ers have a great roster. They also looked fairly bad in two home playoff wins, and but for the Aiyuk helmet catch we're talking about the Lions right now--who themselves narrowly beat the Rams in a WC game at Ford Field.
It would be really nice to have something more concrete, but the only lesson is build a good enough roster to consistently help your QB look good and make the playoffs, then hope that one year it works out.
There is a podcast I hope it’s ok to mention that features Bomani Jones and Dominic Foxworth (entertaining) they refer to Pat Mahomes as Jorden. The 49ers were the best team in the NFC, the NFC is on a down cycle unfortunately. My opinion two of the teams the Chiefs beat in the playoffs, Bills or Ravens would have beat the 49ers.
Mahomes should be MVP, not Jackson. We are lucky to see a talent like him. It was a good game, the 49ers probably had better players except for one.
You're article is based on the outcome of the game and final score. The 9ers but for a punt that landed on the heel of a 9ers blocker, that lead to a turnover, and a missed/blocked extra point, plus Shanahan in explicitly abandoning the run in the 3rd quarter, and the 9ers are the champs and this article is flipped on its narrative that we should emulate their plan. I do agree that there is no way to emulate the Chief's plan, which basically all stems from the fact they drafted a once in a life time talent, in Mahomes There is no way to plan to do that. I know Purdy played well, but that is his high water mark for his talent. Put Cousins, Stafford or Allen at 9ers qb, and they are unbeatable. We are a looooong way from either team and going into our third year under this regime. Re sign Cousins to a cap/team friendly deal, teach him how to move around a little in the pocket to avoid the sack, and see how deep we can run in the playoffs, maybe we catch fire at the right time. But he'll probably be a 9er next year cause Shanahan loves him and probably views him as the missing piece.
The article is not based on the final score. I literally wrote that the 49ers are the example for the Vikings to follow even though they lost the game. Cousins, Stafford and Allen are not similar. Two of those QBs are freakishly physically gifted. You can't teach a 36 year old with a repaired Achilles to "move around a little"
