Totally agree with this... As much as we all liked the veterans we have lost so far, it would be hard to argue against what Kwesi did..
However, as you pointed out this situation straddles the fence.... To me... (and we will never know both of these, only one)
What is the cheapest (or maybe shortest) deal Hunter agrees to vs... what is the best trade package offered...
Puking him out for something like a 4th rounder feels like a bad move.... But 4 yr 100 million contract with 50mm guaranteed also seems like a bad move...
My instinct tells me we should trade him. Giving aging veterans huge contracts hasn’t worked out well for us in the cap world. But then again, giving him a huge contract with livable cap impact but full of lucrative performance clauses...
I kind of agree with you...But again, what is our return on the trade... But push comes to shove, a pause year is acceptable, especially if we can see some young defensive talent step up.
I'm in the keep Hunter camp. $25M in 3 years will seem cheap as the cap explodes. A part of the equation is that I'll bet the best they get for him is a late 2nd and 4th or somesuch. I think that graphic above paints Hunter in the worst light. I find it hard to judge him based on last year's system but even still PFF graded Hunter an 86 last year and Chubb a 66. IMO Flores needs competence on the edge for his system to work. Extending him isn't entirely win now. If I had to choose 2 I'd take JJ and Hunter over JJ and Hockenson. That seems to be the choice and there's no way they don't pay Hockenson it seems.

Trade him for at least a 2nd round pick (maybe someone will show up with a first) with a plan to move up for a QB in the next draft
If we can get a 2nd for him I would do it.
Less than a 2nd and it makes us look weak..
Anything less than a second smacks of the trades Rick did
