On the rookie 1st round QB sitting out a full year thing, the last Viking I can remember doing it was Culpepper. That worked out extremely well. Memory only here, but I think he came in for three kneel-downs one game and that was literally it.
Yep. Every situation is different. I think it would be impossible to say broadly that it does or doesn't work but I have a tough time believing it's ever a bad thing since the gap between college and NFL is so massive
That's such an important point about "developing". These are tiny samples, but we should distinguish GUYs and JAGs. Andy Reid can make any QB look good and the Chefs roster was loaded, is there any reason to believe sitting 15 games had a material impact on Mahomes' greatness? Palmer had a strong OL and Ocho/TJ Housh. Fields was done a disservice, but no QB benefits from awful rosters coupled with poor play-calling.
The list of JAGs who actually developed is Kirk, Romo and. . .? There are other later round picks who became starters, but Wilson took the job in camp. Dak started week 1 due to injury, Purdy's first pass was week 7. The expectation/hope that a JAG qb is going to develop on a NFL team ignores what organizations are incentivized to do/focus on.

Great answers Matt. I don't see a way a Jefferson and Kirk contracts if Cousins is pushing 50 million.
There is an easy solution to that one--stop kicking cap hits down the road. The dead cap in '24 is more than enough for the hit on a JJ extension.
Thanks for all the answers!
