Totally agree. I've thought that sooooo many times. Where's your nuance, Brzezinski? He's shifty with the numbers but not so much with people, it seems. A good, moral quality, but not for championship-building. 😂
Also should have clarified in my question (but Twatter limits characters) - how often we hear these mock drafts and the same names come up, then draft day happens and we end up drafting someone, and everyone's like... who? I guess that's also partially what I meant. But that might be a relic of the Spielman days.
Back in the day, Winfield and Smoot were signed as UFAs with roster bonuses (current year cap hits) instead of signing bonuses (amortized over the length of the deal). Brziezinski knows how to be smart, but he doesn’t make the call, unfortunately. Speilman did and now KAM does.
It’s easy to find cap space, just as it’s easy to get a payday loan. It takes planning and discipline to avoid doing needing to do so, and that is abjectly lacking here.
