My husband and I have decided to "lower" our expectations of the Vikings (too much heartache for someone that has been following them for 50+ years lol). My personal goal for them is for Justin Jefferson to finish the year as the #1 WR in the league (stat wise - he deserves that much) and for us not to look stupid like we did last year. LOL. I am not sure what Billy's goals are for the team. Thanks for the insight.
I have agree it is weird the dislike of Murray for by some fans. While I want JJm to succeed, I would rather feel comfortable knowing we have a top 10 QB.
And as you pointed out, KM seems legit excited to be here. And he should be motivated. He finally is on competently run team with awesome weapons. Make it work and he gets a solid contract to stay. He clearly realizes this is the chance too finally be on winner (and it makes it easier for him to stay (ie small hometeam discount as he realizes the grass is not always greener more than most players)
I can't wait for the boys to really play football. I agree with you on OTA's are like watching a basketball shoot around. There is really not a lot to talk about at this time regarding the Vikings. Unfortunately the Twins are more interesting at this time of the year.
The range of potential outcomes for Murray's next contract/what the Vikings do at QB is fascinating. If the season bombs--which seems unlikely with KOC--it's an easy choice: use the top 10 pick, jumping up as needed, and get a qb. It can't be worse than JJMC or Ponder. If the season is fine, Murray is probably willing to take a middle-class QB deal and it probably makes sense to do so, because absent a team in the top 5 being interested in trading back, what are the alternatives?
If it's an 11+ win season, Murray is top ten in QBR + a playoff win or two? Then Murray is probably looking for an inflation-adjusted Prescott contract, and the team has zero leverage. Murray would be a 29 year old UFA with four good-to-really-good seasons, not just a one hit wonder, in a league where Indiana Jones just signed for $50 MM this season while tagged.
That would be a great "problem" to face, it's been a minute since the lovely win down in NOLA and the Miracle. But, it's a much more difficult and consequential choice to make than those in the first two scenarios.
