Re: I haven’t thought about a second book yet. I’ve always thought it might be a cool podcast idea to have fans tell their favorite stories of being at famous games.

That’s a great idea for off-season content! Don’t forget a series on life inside and outside football with the purple people eaters. Now that would be a kick ass and compelling ear job.

It would be interesting to see how many people remember the same events differently.

OldDrummer touches on this, but it's hard to compare the skills positions on the late 90's Jags and these Vikings.

Peak Boselli > peak Randy McD or any other Vikings OL. I like O'Neill, but he's not at Searcy's level (yet). Elflein wouldn't have made any of those Jags rosters, much less started. Give those Jaguars teams last year's Vikings OL do they win 7 games?

As much as I am impressed with JJ and know Thielen is good, I don’t think either one is as dominant as Jimmy Smith. He was putting up 2020 numbers back in the late 90s. Taylor also didn’t get hurt as often even if the high end of Cook might be a little better. I think they still dominate with the Vikings’ OL but def not as good cuz Boselli is better than any Vikings OLman maybe ever

So what happens to Austin after the Cutting? Does he have to fulfill his USAF commitment now?

I disagree with you, Matt (rare occurrence) re Daniel Carlson not being a wise draft choice. I think if he had virtually any other head coach in the league it would have been a great draft pick. He is currently 5th in the league in FG% at 92% and is 4/4 @ 50+ yds. So in a way, yes, a bad pick for a Zimmer team. Zim loves kickers as much as he loves the passing game.

Kai Forbath was a top 10 % kicker ever when they picked Carlson and even if he turned out good for somebody else... you can't call the pick a success for the Vikings when he got cut 2 games in

Any idea about Cutting’s USAF obligation?

My point was, Carlson could have been a success for us if our HC had a shred of compassion and even just a hint of people skills.

yeah, no idea on Cutting. My guess is that he'll technically still be in the NFL and probably get other opportunities around the league. There's only so many of these guys out there.

I get what you're saying about Carlson but it's fair to say that none of the guys they've picked have worked out, so it's better to pick project players and get specialists in FA

The Tyler Dunne two part story on Zimmer influenced my thoughts on this issue. That was a real eye opener. Very interesting podcast as well.

Years ago I channel surfed NFL games and stopped on the Jags/Fins game. I immediately locked onto the young NFL media darling, DE Jason Taylor. The ball is snapped, he makes his charge and the Jags lineman absolutely neutralized his rush with ease. I continued to watch and on every play, Taylor is dominated! Who the hell is this Jag lineman that appears to be toying with Taylor with impunity??? I learned it was Tony Boselli. Over the years, this NFL battle always stuck in my mind when discussing dominating offensive linemen and eventually I researched Boselli. I found his career was cut short by a botched surgery... a tragic NFL loss. Tony may have had a short career, but he is absolutely one of the best and deserves a gold jacket.

Don't see how Favre can be on your Top 7 Vikings QBs list off the strength of one season, but Randall Cunningham isn't in there

Because as much as I think Cunningham was awesome and that year was historic, Randy Moss was driving that train. If we’re picking which one year wonder makes it, I have to lean Favre

Updated the post to include Cunningham... upon further review, switched Cousins ahead of Brad Johnson because of the playoff win, moved Cunningham to 6th
