Anyway, I just want preseason to start. Had a guy on twitter argue viciously that he will be a bottom 8 QB. I find that hard to believe (though injury is a worry).
18-24 in one scores games, when the defence is atrocious and the coach does things like kick to go up 6. . .that seems pretty reasonable.
With the massive caveat of Darrisaw being back, the nice thing for Murray is that he has everything he needs. If he’s actually good, he’ll show up and we’ll see the results. If he doesn’t perform, he’s a backup the rest of the way and will have no-one to blame except himself.
Without question Murray has above average talent. I find it hard to believe that he would not be motivated to maximize his skills with the current top ten offensive talent of the Minnesota Vikings. Hopefully the stars will align and produce a championship caliber team.
I’m pretty optimistic about Murray. The personality stuff is always overblown to me, and I think it’s even less of an issue on this team with guys like O’Neill and Jefferson and Aaron Jones on the offense. Being on the quieter side didn’t hurt Darnold any. I’m not much of an all 22 tape grinder, but from what I see just watching some Cardinals plays from the last few years, I get the impression that the short depth of target stuff was just how their scheme worked due to the cardinals WRs not getting a ton of separation downfield. Murray isn’t going to be slinging it all over the field like Darnold, but I think he’ll be able to push it into the intermediate range just fine and take a deep shot here and there. Unless JJ shows up to camp looking like a completely different QB, I don’t think the competition lasts very long.
