I read that the OL gave up just 6 pressures yesterday. Now we know the magic number needed to put Cpt Squeeky into panic mode, causing him to ignore developing routes and dump off to his check downs.
I think at some point, the automatic choke reflex comes in.. By that I mean I do think the first couple of games were lost by random noise. But I think that has lead ZImmer in particular (maybe Kubiak as well) to get nervous and focus on just not losing. And Zimmer panics under the pressure and this leads to just bad play calling and maybe a lack of confidence by some of the players (Cousins)... For example, the play call that will live in infamy, our 3rd and 9 in overtime and the Ravens threatening to blitz nine.... Who in their right mind does not have at least one (if not 2) outlet passes... Why of course the Vikings. Zimmer has lost the ability to BEAT an opponent.. Yes, maybe win a few games, but take them by throat and crush them...No..... So we are left with a pretty good team, but one that you know, will not be able to close out a game vs a tough team. And it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy... Vikings up 10 but you KNOW IN YOUR HEART, they will lose by 3.
Always a good read Matthew. I already went off but I have a couple of questions after reading comments and listening to the game analysis:
1. A lot of blame is going against Klint so I need to ask... do you believe Klint designed the game plan in the last two games to have Kirk check down 60% of the time?
2. Do you believe that Klint intentionally instructed Kirk to not throw the ball to wide-open Adam Thielen and Jefferson?
3. In the post-game comments, Zimmer said he thought they could have run Dalvin more. Who do you think is pressing for those 2nd and long-running plays? Zimmer, Klint, or Kirk?
4. Why do you think the Defense was on the field for 46+ minutes? Was it almost but not good enough play by the defense? Were the Ravens trying to push the ball forward 3 yards at a time or the ineptitude of the Offense who could not stay on the field?
5. There are varying accounts of Kirk's QB rating but they were between 101 and 104. Do you believe that rating came from pressing to win or a pressing to check down to good stats?
No ranting with this, just good old fashion questions and a pure appreciation of the BB King comment :) Thank you Mr. Matthew 'BB' Coller; SKOL Vikings 2022!!
Thanks Matt great article. I'm pretty close to waving the white flag and working the draft which maybe top 10 before this is over. I suspect Detroit will beat someone before the season is over. Remember Jacksonville Jags beat the Buffalo Bill's and the Broncos beat the Cowboys yesterday.

Watching the Vikings games is like watching the movie Groundhog Day. Vikings core early, the score is close at halftime, and they lose late.
