How many other teams have waited this long for a franchise quarterback? Most of the NFL fan base can never ever understand why Vikings fans are so hyped over JJ. He's OUR quarterback, not someone purchased from the used car lot.
There have been other guys who could have been homegrown franchise QBs. Culpepper and Teddy were legitimate options whose careers were irrevocably altered by knee injuries. Ponder seemed to be a reach at the time, but he was the 12th overall pick--same as Bo Nix. Hurts was the 53rd overall pick, T-Jax was only 11 picks later.
Beyond what JJMC personally brings to the table, which seems promising, he is also in a truly great situation. That adds to the excitement and dare one say it aloud, optimism. Texans fans, e.g., may be delighted with Stroud, but if they are aren't very concerned about their OL options, they should be.
Thank you Matthew for giving me good reasons to be hopeful about this team. I’ve never fully recovered from their first SB loss to Kansas City. (Yes I’m that old.) KAM, KOC and BFlo have built a team that seems complete on both sides of the ball. They look as strong as any team in the NFL. Let’s go.
We’re finally here. I spent an unhealthy amount of time looking at the QBs in McCarthy’s draft class. There are YouTube videos out there that have every pass those guys threw in college that year and I must have watched them each about five times. I had McCarthy as my number 2 QB coming out and obviously loved the pick. The wait to see him play a real game has been excruciating.
Bridgewater was not stop gap QB. His horrific injury created the subsequent problems you mentioned. Zimmer was a good coach despite his temperament, but he did not have a lucky horseshoe.

I am officially on board the Vikings bandwagon. Win or lose, this is a solid team with a stacked roster.
