It's the last line of the article that reinforces my optimism, but also scares the hell out of me. I believe it as it feels like the Vikings are below the Lions and Eagles, but in a group of two or three others in the NFC and that's a great place to be with a young quarterback in McCarthy. On the other hand it scares me because maybe they believe they're just a veteran QB away from the Super Bowl and they're drinking their own Purple Kool-Aid on this roster and their quarterback whisperer powers to bring in an old, narcissistic QB unwilling to throw the ball more than 8 yards downfield because he will not take a hit...Please Kwesi and Kevin, don't fool yourselves into believing Rodgers is all you're missing. He isn't nearly as good as Darnold was last year or Cousins in 2018, and--as good as they are--your culture building and QB guru status aren't Mount Rushmore cemented to take on the mess that is Aaron Rodgers. Go sign Cooper Rush to backup and help JJ and get on with the effing plan you've executed so well to this point.
I really don’t think it’s happening. My best guess is they told him they’d probably give him a call in August if JJ has a big setback with the knee. He’s sitting around wondering if he should sign with a team now or potentially retire if JJ is fine and nobody else wants a last minute drama queen for a QB.
I think the odds are long, too, but as someone (who wants Rodgers) said in the chat the other night the Vikings could've already signed a good backup and be done with it so why haven't they? Coller calls out Cooper Rush as a great fit and I'm with him. If I look at through the lens of worst impulses I can believe KOC would love a reclamation project like Rodgers; pull this guy off the junk pile and re-establish him as a top QB and all hail the Quarterback Whisperer. Kwesi hasn't been extended yet, is he feeling any short-term pressure to try to equal last year's success, and can he talk himself into the idea that a has-been like Rodgers gives him more than the upside of the inexperienced McCarthy? In the end I think they walk away from it, but I also wish they already would have.
Having a lame-duck GM, especially in these overall circumstances, is rather troubling.
But, how inept does someone have to be to look at this qb landscape and see something worth trying? If post-Colts Manning or post-Pats Brady were out there, that would be a legitimate quandary.
Ironically, in 2000 the Vikings were in talks with Danny Marino to come to the Cities. He ended up passing, Culpepper (11th overall pick in his second season) got his chance and we had yet another extremely pleasant NFC game.
Exactly. All these moves in FA are putting them in position to stay true to their board. When the pick comes up at 24, they can simply assess value rather than worrying about whether they will miss out on a particular position. I can't remember the last time they had a draft where they weren't just trying to fill positional needs with their early picks.
The Vikings should sign Rogers. I’m not concerned about his past and I assume he has mental health problems. This isn’t a championship team. I think they will be entertaining. Is there another player available capable of the Rogers side eyed pout bad body language uncooperative knows better than anyone approach to our favorite pastime?
I know this is largely due to the fact that they don’t have a lot of draft capital, but I am surprised by how many older vets they’ve signed, especially at RB and DT (I know Mason isn’t that old, but still). They run complex schemes on both sides of the ball, so maybe it was always inevitable that they would skew a little older than average. I do like Mason’s highlight reel. Broke a lot of tackles against the Vikes.

KAM is cooking. Now they can do no worse than stay put and take best player available.

“Blessed” and “luxury” are carrying some water for KAM, there. The Vikings had picks; they were used not wisely but too well.

Mason is 25. “Not that old” means he’s the same age as Bo Nix.
