Well damn, Matthew. This is simply fantastic. For me, as the sports editor at a local newspaper in Maryland (yes, we still publish a paper six days a week — and I still design the pages), I loved every bit of this story.

I’m also glad to read that Kirk finally ponied up for a Sentinel (online) subscription after all those years of just buying single copies at the gas station.

I just realized that a family friend worked at that school during Kirk's high school years. Don't know why I never made that connection before.
