So…. Moments ago it was announced JJ Mc has an ankle injury and will be out next week vs Bengals. Wentz starts and Max backup. Possible this is more of a soft bench sit out?
McCarthy was known in college for throwing over the middle and throwing on the run. He was also known for throwing picks on deep outs. Feels like they’re only doing the latter and it makes no sense to me unless the defenses are doing something to take away the middle of the field, or if they simply don’t trust JJ to layer throws over the middle of the field in the NFL.
even watching live, didn't look like the defense was doing anything besides sitting in zones... whatever the offensive gameplan was they allowed it to crash and burn instead of making adjustments. Rough watch for the home crowd.
I'm 50/50 on JJ's ankle injury. Yeah, he might be. It might also be a good time to sit him when his center, LT, RB, and back up LT are hurting. Division games are more important than non-conference games like the ones coming up. Get healthy for the Packers and Lions because that's the path to the playoffs.
And for cryin out loud KOC needs to find out what this team does well and stick with it. Last year Darnold could bomb it. That's not JJs game. But they do have a bruiser of a RB so lets get him going.
The only time this year the offense has looked somewhat competent and strung together more than a couple first downs is when Mason is in as the lead back. With Jones having the hamstring injury, KOC might be forced into doing what he should've been doing all along. Hopefully more opportunities for him and getting Darrisaw back will raise the floor. Also, someone put out an APB for Hockenson. We were told that he and McCarthy had developed a connection in camp and he would be a key target underneath, and he's nowhere to be found so far. Seems like McCarthy's eyes are locked in deep down the field and he's sticking with it longer than the OL is capable of holding up.
I’m trying to keep in context that 2 of our 3 most important players offensively haven’t played yet. I think it’s underrated how important Addison is to this offense. He opens up so much more for this team. We of course know the importance of Darrisaw as well.
With all that said, I just don’t see how this team gets to 10 wins. You have 4 games in division that will be losses (GB and DET). Plus losses to Philly and Baltimore. That’s 7 losses right there. And then road games against Chargers and Seahawks…I just really don’t see it. We’ll be fortunate to get 8 or 9 wins. And that’s with us getting to 4-1. Hope I’m wrong and I do think it’ll get better, but these performances definitely sink expectations.
I am disappointed by yesterday's game but I am not ready to throw JJ away. We can even look at Josh Allen's Rookie year and see he had quiet a few stinkers. On to Cincinnati.
Young McCarthy has his share of blame, no doubt... anyone with football sense will reserve judgement. But it was VERY bothersome to see coach of the year look clueless when it comes to much-needed offensive adjustments that felt completely ignored.

Thanks Matthew - listened to the Pcast… likely a real sprain. Who is QB3?

To me it looked like the O line played really badly, six sacks, jeez. Pretty hard to get into a rhythm with guys chasing you all day.

That escalated quickly.
Heard this on a podcast recently (and often) but the offense could use some more screen passes. 😉
