A modest request for 2026: recognizing that passer rating and QB rating are different stats.

Passer rating is out of 158.3, because of course it is. Passer rating was a great step in how to think about the game, but has some glaring problems because it doesn't consider sacks, fumbles, rushing or the game context when stats accrued. QBR is out of--wait for it--100, and considers all of those things--which is pretty consistent with what we now know about football. QBs have a material impact on sack rates, and sacks kill drives. It's also pretty useful having a QB who runs for first downs. Those kinds of things should be measured in a stat that assesses QBs.

So, using passer rating in 2026 feels a bit antiquated. If that's Purple Insider's jam, ok. But, can we please have the correct name for the stat being cited?

Definitely going to be interesting to see how they handle free agency and the draft. Wouldn’t expect much FA wise aside from whoever they get at QB and probably a vet safety. Draft wise, I wonder if they will skew closer to the consensus boards than they did under Kwesi.

Also, the fact that Rob B. is in charge now and he was the guy the coaches pushed to sign Thielen behind Kwesi’s back doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence. If that is an indicator of the kinds of moves the coaches and Rob B. are going to make I’m not optimistic.

A long time ago Rob did an excellent job structuring contracts, e.g. the UFA deals for Winfield and Smoot used roster bonuses and so didn't trail dead money. He knows how to do it, it's a question of who directs the strategy.

This is going to be a weird offseason--hell, it's a continuation from last year and a titular GM running UFA/draft without an extension. I'd be fine with Brzezinski getting the gig, but it's really odd that right now he's a placeholder or going through an audition.

Coaches are always hyper-focused on winning the next game. The GM is supposed to be incentivized to succeed over a longer time horizon.

Great writing as always. My biggest questions are, why did we think JJM was ready to go (when he clearly wasn't) and why didn't we add depth when JJM was out and CW hurt his shoulder in London. If we were serious about making a run, those to pieces seem obvious and we didn't course correct along the way. Why not? It just all feels odd. As you say, time to shine KOC. Let's go.

Definitely a good move.

Will Frank Smith be as unused as Jordan Mason in the red zone last year?
