great read.. i think everyone who plays sports at a high level has that defining moment where you recognize u have it, and you belong. or.. you come to the realization that you don’t… sports are amazing but can be soooo humbling as well.. anyway… i look fwd to reading all your articles and am so happy for you.. matthew will be a great mentor as he is an amazing writer and equally as awesome a reporter, podcaster and person. oh and btw.. history shows he only picks the best to work with him. so i know, you will soon have the realization that “You Belong!” congrats on the great opportunity man!!
Clay, nice article. Sorry about your experience. I really appreciate you telling your story. My son is a scholarship athlete (not football, non revenue sport) who has been at 2 power-5 schools. I put trust in them to take care of him thru injuries but was similarly astounded by poor care/recovery plans. In his case it wasn’t that the coaches didn’t care or that put the program above his needs, I really think it was just amateur and overwhelmed staff at both places. You found your best advice too late. All too common. Looking forward to more PI contributions from you!
Even if you can’t make it as a football player, you can certainly make it as a writer. Great job!
Clay looking forward to reading your stuff, I think Matthew will be a good mentor, he’s shown to have mental toughness like yourself.
Great stuff Clay. Go Quakers. And thank you for opening up and sharing your emotions. Not an easy thing to do.
