My son and I were fishing for steelhead on the Brule in northern WI. I could not believe that Randy dropped to the Vikings in the draft. I missed all of Bermans quips because you could not hear the sound in the bar in East Waymo. I also remember I was happy the Packers did not draft him.
I remember reading and hearing the stories coming out of training camp about Randy like he was some sort of mythological creature. When my buddies and I gathered at my college house to watch the '98 opener against TB, he was all any of us could talk about. By the end of the game, he was everybody's favorite player and we were talking Super Bowl (so close) while worrying that Brad Johnson didn't have the arm to throw the bomb. Turned out we didn't need to worry about that for much longer. 😆
