I am self-admittedly totally and completely emotionally outraged by this loss. Not really sure why either. I'm going to be doing the emotionally immature thing of giving this team the silent treatment for a few days, nurse my wounds, and then maybe I can begin to feel again. Good grief, but this team can inflict misery on its longest-persevering fans.
5-2 is good....if you are playing well. The Vikings are not playing well and are 5-2 while trending the wrong way. This is concerning....where is the defense??? The refs sucked all game...not just the last bad non-call. Be honest.
If the coaching staffs were flipped, do the Vikings win by 17? The Rams were playing a guard at LT and scrubs everywhere else except Havenstein, who is ok at best. There is a lot of capital allocated to the front 7 and van Ginkel is the only one providing excess ROI. After 71 went down, the Rams got pressure easily and consistently.
KOC brought an oyster shucker to a gunfight kicking the FGs, one almost wonders if having a great kicker actually hurts the team, because the coach leans on a crutch instead of doing math.
Speaking of the name that Herbstreit can’t pronounce, that’s two first-half ending draws where Jones inexplicably carried the ball. Pre-snap, that was irksome, Jones should not be on the field risking injury for raising the white flag. Now, if it costs Darrisaw the season? KOC has a lot to make up for.
I want to be concerned about the offense, but then I need to remember it's Sam Darnold out there playing QB and Samtember is over.
This team might have just started out hot and is now showing that it's a squad with some weaknesses that even a great offseason in free agency can't completely cover up.
Count me in as someone who hopes that KAM decides to trade away the farm, because so far he hasn't brought in much talent through the draft. His free agent signings have mostly been good, some even outstanding, but the lack of talent brought in to fix the defensive line and secondary is a concern 3 years into a "competitive rebuild."
I get that nobody is perfect, &obviously we don't know how JJ and Turner will pan out as one is hurt, the other is behind 2 great players, and above all they're still only 7 games into their rookie seasons, but I don't think that it is unfair to KAM to be concerned that a large majority of his draft picks haven't been even serviceable outside of Addison (who has unfortunately disappeared this season) Pace and Nailor who have exceeded expectations as UDFAs and a 6th rounder respectively, and Reichard who looks to be potentially elite.
I understand the talk about the timeline and how 2025 is the all in year, I just hope that they can compliment the potentially expensive free agent acquisitions, with cheap solid draftees who can become contributors.

Love your writing style Matthew! Factual, analytical and entertaining! Keep up the great work.

Great article Mathew and commentary on substack. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has 12 days to find some help.
