2. Do well in the NFLPA ranking of teams really does seem to help with recruiting players (of course money is often bigger, but at the margins it does affect decisions
3. Which means it is hilarious that a terrible owner (Woody Johnson) today claimed the rankings are 'totally bogus'... Woody`s Jets got an F and he clearly does not like that he is as fault so time to execute the messenger.. Seriously, one sees idiots like that and think... Yeah, The Wilfs are better owners.
On the recruiting point: it's better to be more attractive than less, and it's better to be a place where players can thrive vs the Jets/Cardinals. . .but does it actually help attract talent?
Danny Dimes apparently left for less money. Obviously, Richardson looks like a disaster, but the Colts' hot-seat coach and gm are the ones who picked Richardson and would benefit significantly if he figures it out this year. I haven't seen reports that any of the UFAs that were signed left money on the table elsewhere, and there have been other players whom the Vikings were apparently "in on" that passed (e.g. Wilkins last year).
The value in doing well in the rankings may matter once players are in the door, but not necessarily help get them through it.
For Danny Dimes it was opportunity. Unless JJM gets hurt, Dimesis the backup here. If he goes to Indy, he has a chance to start and then make more later down the line. So it was about the money, but in the longer term.
I think where it helps is when money/opportunity is similar, players will prefer the better organization, It can be a factor but clearly is not the only factor
It's interesting, especially thinking of KOC's line about orgs failing QBs more often than they fail orgs. Agreed that given current information it's more likely Dimes starts in Indy than here. . .but then what? Does one want to take over command of a sinking ship? It's really hard to look good/get a payday in those circumstances.
JJMC is unlikely to (and shouldn't) have a short leash, but if if he's rusty in camp or Dimes plays amazingly, that could result in a few starts. If there is an injury or resting starters in week 18, that's an opportunity. Since it was (relatively) small money in both spots, presumably he would be better set-up for 2026 staying here.
Position over position, I don’t think I’ve been more confident in what the front office has built since the 2009 offseason. Funny enough, the main question/concern then was also at QB, with Sage and TJ set to compete before Favre frenzy finally became real. And we still haven’t seen how they fortify with this year’s draft.
Last word on Rodgers. Would anyone have ever expected Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, multiple MVP winners like Rodgers, to be happy being QB2? Some players can coach and/or mentor. Some can't. as an example, Michael Jordan never went into coaching because sometimes you just can't teach what comes naturally. Rodgers is not a team guy. He's a me guy who plays on teams.
Everyone can say the right things--and good for them for keeping what's clearly a contentious negotiation behind closed doors--but KAM's contract status *is* a story for a very simple reason: the Wilfs and KOC quickly agreed what he is worth; the Wilfs and KAM do not agree what he is worth.
Whatever happens in the draft, we won't know the results until a couple of months into the season, at the very earliest. So, from a negotiating perspective, KAM's body of work is established and isn't going to change between now and September. There are reasons why he can justify his asking price is, and there are reasons why the Wilfs can reasonably disagree.
1. The Wilfs are good owners

Billionaire owners never think they're wrong and rarely look in the mirror.
We are on the precipice of something pretty exciting, I think. This season will be worth waiting for, methinks.
Methinks you’re right milady.

Wait. Wtf is this anyway? Optimism?
Is this what optimism feels like?
Careful there, with that optimism, Josh. Don't want to have to triage later.

We'll see if and when one side blinks.
